Prophetess by Anna Ruiz

Painting by Arna Baartz

Do not monopolize my time
with a harlot's abandon
do not strike a whetstone
with the perfect balance
do not let me go down the cosmic drain
without seeing the fire in my eyes
burning through the aftermath
of all that has yet to be seen;

just hold my hand as we run down a thousand steps
of the temple
dedicated to the queen
of pantheistic gods,
renamed by modern man's arsenal of slings and arrows,
war and flying machines, slavers to bombs
and stonings and beheadings.

Do not forget my name is Isis.  Do not kill in my name.

by Anna Ruiz. An excerpt from the upcoming Girl God Anthology, Jesus, Mohammad and the Goddess.
