At
a recent Southern Hemisphere Autumn Women’s festival – Seven
Sisters – in country
Victoria, Australia, I co-presented two contentious subjects, in areas of women’s experience that we don’t
often talk about – Healing Abortion and Eating Disorders. Because, I know, we
know, its time for us to talk about the hard stuff: the faces of the wounded
feminine and the wounded masculine, within and without, in our culture.
“If not now, then when? If not us, then who?”
‘Eating Disorders – what’s
going on? and what are we doing about it?’ was a gathering of women from the
1000 present at the festival, who had either personal experience, professional
interest or a close caring relationship with someone experiencing an eating
disorder (ED). I co-presented this with Kristan Lee Read, my Apprentice, Steiner Educator, Craft Womb Co-ordinator, Guardian (Management Team) Map Seer (Operations) Flame Keeper (Project
Coordinator) of the School of Shamanic Midwifery (SSM), with the support
of nine graduates of the SSM – Melody Bourne, Talulah Gough, Scarlett McNamara,
Nahelyana Ubergang, Vivienne Thomas, Amanda Ryan, Liz Maloney, Alenka Kerri
Merrall, and Sarah Miller.
Using
three models to generate ideas – the GROW Model, the Influence Model and the
Snowball Process, we worked with the 50 women who came to answer two questions:
How can we
change the culture?
How can we help the girls and women experiencing ED now?
How can we help the girls and women experiencing ED now?
