Light up the Globe

This Thursday, October 10th is World Mental Health Day. Carol Todd, the mother of Amanda Todd, has asked us to light up the skies purple in honor of her beautiful daughter and those who struggle with mental health.

Carol Todd has an enormously strong woman who has turned her own grief into a growing movement to help others. We must put our collective arms around her to provide the strength, rest and healing she deserves. Please show your support online by changing your profile picture or your banner. There are easy ways to download these on the Amanda Todd Legacy Society Facebook page.

Amanda Todd was indeed a beautiful light in this world, whose final Youtube video prompted much of my own online activism. A year later, it still seems too painful to believe she is gone. We seem to be only adding more children to the list of lives lost—without finding solutions.

It is my hope that we change this world for all our children. And change can’t come soon enough.

No child should be bullied – at school, at home, or online.

Mental health has remained stigmatized and in the shadows for too long. We are not doing enough as a community to help those who need it. We forget that we are all in this together.

I don’t have any answers, so I invite you to join our online forum at Women & Girls Speak on Social Networks: the good, the bad & the horrifying.  We will leave this forum open for those who want to write a note of support to Carol Todd. You can also share your ideas on how to stop bullying and/or provide better support to those who struggle with mental health.

Sending love and purple light to all.
