Morning Service

So still so sunny and so Sunday

is this early day,
what's done needs to be quiet:
a white butterfly
by the red fuses of the fuchsias.

The sounds are the sea
that only breaks its silence
meeting other elements,
and a hummingbird saying tek!
tek! as it attacks the fuchsias.

Nothing else says anything.
I am trying to be still.
This is the church I go to
to hear the hymns and prayers
and see the light.

~Ursula K. Le Guin, from Finding my Elegy: New and Selected Poems
